Will new arena produce jobs?

The Sacramento First Task Force is bringing the arena debate to North Sac.

The task force will hold a hearing focused on the facility's impact on jobs and economic development. The hearing will address whether a facility will create immediate jobs, generate immediate economic stimulus, and foster long-term economic growth for the city.

The meeting takes place tomorrow afternoon from 1:30-3:00pm at the Carpenters Local 46 on Pell Drive.

Two teens attempt to rescue man from house fire

A man in his late 80s died in a house fire on the 4000 block of Marysville Boulevard on Sunday afternoon. Two teenagers, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old, said they saw smoke and tried to get to the man inside, but were inundated with smoke and unable to reach him.

These two teens should be commended for their brave and inspired actions.

Don't mess with Lamont Rogers

Three robbers tried to hold up a mini-mart in Del Paso Heights last night, but were stopped by a police officer hailed by a passerby. The suspects scattered: two made it out, and the third was stuck at the back door.

Enter Lamont Rogers.

Rogers grabbed the aluminum bat he keeps for protection and started beating the suspect to "subdue him". Rogers said he couldn't recollect how many times he hit the suspect, who asked Rogers why he was beating him (it has nothing to do with holding him up, does it?).

The suspect was taken to the hospital as a result of his injuries (brain damage?), while the other two are still at large.

Turns out Rogers is the same clerk who took down Richard Guy Hamilton when he allegedly tried to rob the store by lighting another clerk on fire in November.
